A DNS lookup that maps an IP address back to a domain name, used to verify email sender identity.

Reverse DNS (rDNS) resolves an IP address to a hostname, the opposite of forward DNS. Email servers check rDNS to confirm that the sending IP matches the domain it claims to represent. A missing or mismatched rDNS record often causes emails to be flagged as spam or rejected outright.
